PROJECT: USS Flagship Niagara Berthing Facility
COMPLETED: October 1997
CLIENT: US Army Corps of Engineers
Buffalo District
SPECIFICS: This project required 14,000 CY of dredging and 23,000 CY of rock excavation for the entrance channel, turning basin, and berthing areas.  A 600-ft revetment was constructed utilizing 3,200 tons of armor stone and 1,600 tons of bedding stone.  A series of 33 round fenders were installed along the new east stone revetment.  The new dock wall was constructed out of 60 H-beams drilled and grouted into the rock and anchored with 2" tie rods attached to pre-cast deadman; and 10,000 SF of timber lagging.  The wall was backfilled with 10,000 tons of granular fill and capped with reinforced concrete.  A series of steel sheet pile cells were constructed to help the Niagara in and out of the berthing area.
AWARDS: Recognized as the 1997 Contractor of the Year in the Great Lakes and Ohio River Corps District for this project.
